Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre is open 7 days a week, and employees may be required to work days, weekends, evenings and statutory holidays to meet operational requirements.
West Shore Parks & Recreation Society (WSPRS) is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefit package for Regular Full-time and Part-time employees, and 12% in lieu of benefits coverage for Auxiliary employees. All employees are offered a complimentary pass to our facility for drop-in use of the Weight Room, Pool, Skating rink and some drop-in fitness classes. Limited use of the Golf Course is also included with the facility pass.

POSITION: Licensed After School Care Leader - Position #1
SALARY: $15.26 plus 12% in lieu of benefits
HOURS:
Monday–Friday 2:30-5:30, September 2008-June 2009
STATUS: Auxiliary
SUMMARY: This auxiliary position involves up to 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, for the 2008-2009 school year. It also includes 8 hour shifts on Pro-D days, Winter Camp, and Spring Break Camp. Responsibilities will include program organization, planning, implementation, and evaluation of participants, with the major focus on a fun and inspiring program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Written Doctors note stating physical and mental health suitable for working with children.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR C.
- Previous experience working with children.
- Excellent Customer Service and Interpersonal skills.
- Preference will be given with applicants who have some post secondary training
in recreation, youth, childcare or a related discipline.

POSITION: Hip Hop Instructor for Teens

SUMMARY: The Community Development team is looking for an experienced, creative, and energetic dance instructor to teach hip hop dance programs to teen participants starting in September. Dance instructors are responsible for direct instruction and delivery of organized and fun classes designed to keep beginner to intermediate level participants interested and active. Community Development Program instructors are responsible for providing quality recreation programs for residents of the West Shore. The Program Instructor is responsible for program planning and development, organization and lesson plan creation.

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Arena Coordinator, West Shore Parks & Recreation is currently looking for energetic, enthusiastic special event staff to provide a positive and safe environment for the public attending special events at the Juan de Fuca site. Special events may include activities at both the Juan de Fuca and Bear Mountain Arena including but not limited to hockey games, trade shows, regional, provincial and national sporting events. The successful candidate will provide exemplary customer service and public relations while ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful candidates will have experience in providing customer service and
positive public relations at large community events and gatherings.
- Demonstrated ability and training in conflict resolution.

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Food and Beverage Coordiator, West Shore Parks & Recreation is currently looking for concession workers to provide the following service: customer service, counter assistance, order taking, basic food preparation and kitchen services. Concession Workers are responsible for ensuring cleanliness, the safe handling of food and ensuring health and safety procedures and regulations are adhered to. Concession Workers are also responsible for cash handling, cash transaction and cash procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful applicants will have experience in food preparation, the safe handling of food, cleanliness, kitchen safety as well as experience with industrial kitchen equipment.
- Concession Workers require Basic Food Safe and a demonstrated interest in food preparation.
- Cash handling experience is also required.
- Concession workers require excellent communication and organizational skills as well as the ability to successfully manage multiple responsibilities at once.

POSITION: Facility Maintenance Worker II
SALARY: $21.51 to $23.00 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits

Varies, this department operates 24 hours – 7 day a week. Mostly midnight shifts and weekend work.
STATUS: Auxiliary
SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of maintenance and custodial duties including the use of specialized equipment in various parts of the complex. Operates refrigeration equipment, maintains ice surfaces and tests water samples from pools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduation and two years experience in facility maintenance or equivalent.
- Ice Facilities Operators Course recognized by the BC Safety Authority
or a 5th Class Power Operators Certification
- Pool Operators Certificate I and II are required.
- Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties.
- Due to WCB regulations, a requirement for this position is to wear steel toed shoes.

Skate Shop/Skate Patrol attendants are responsible to provide a positive and fun environment for program participants while ensuring that safety policies and procedures are implemented. In addition, Skate Patrol attendants deal with and respond effectively to any first aid situations as they may arise. Other duties include the distribution, collection and basic maintenance of rental skate, general cleaning duties, special event coordination and implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a recreational setting as well as excellent ice skating abilities
- Direct experience in implementing safety rules and regulations and the ability to ensure a positive and fun skating experience for participants is required

- Current NLS Pool Option with CPR C and current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
- Water Fit Instructor certification and another relevant instructor certification are highly desirable.
